Online TV has always been fantastic to an ever growing number of internet tv fans but its tentacles are getting into mainstream media more with every day that passes.
The latest report in Australian Newpaper The Sydney Morning Herald proclaims that Online TV is the future. In fact it claims that as more television shows are avoiding the main TV set and launching online, then traditional TV audiences will follow. If reports are true then in between three and 10 it may well take over.
A new show to be aired on the Yahoo!7 website called ‘That’s Why You’re Single’ puts a group of contestants in front of dating experts, they will coach the unfortunate reject on how to find love. Topics discussed will include their dress-sense and important issues such as when to sleep with a new love interest.
Show presenter Brooke Hemphill got the idea from her dating column and said it would be great if the series was picked up by a TV network, however it can be successful on the web only.
She said that:- ‘Online TV is coming into its own, people can watch content on their mobiles and laptops.Dating shows can either do really well or tank. If you can get the show up online and really get it set up and get a following, then it would be less of a risk for tv networks.’
The dating show will be shown in five minute instalments each day.
The internet is the future for television according to Neon Pictures Peter Taylor. His production company is currently developing six shows for online TV. He said ‘If you look at the marketing rags, the trade magazines, there is a definite trend for traditional television audiences migrating to online. If you believe the reports, in three years it is going to be really noticeable and in 10 years online could just take over.’
According to US research, Americans are consuming more hours of media than hours in a day. Achieving this by multitasking, such as having the tv running and watching online tv and phone tv at the same time.
Because of the interaction and flexibility that you get with online tv, it is only a matter of time before your television set is dead.
